Wyndham Credit Cards Offer Worthwhile Perks, Big Bonuses

13

Barclays has made some positive changes to its travel card portfolio lately. For example, last year Barclays launched new co-branded Emirates credit cards, which offer elite status. Then Barclays launched refreshed co-branded Wyndham credit cards. These Wyndham cards are now offering elevated bonuses, so I wanted to recap the basics of these cards, including those bonuses.

Details of the new Wyndham credit cards

Barclays’ Wyndham credit card portfolio consists of three cards, including two personal credit cards and one business credit card.

Wyndham is a hotel group mostly with limited service properties, so I have a hard time getting too excited about any credit card from the brand. That being said, these cards are just about as lucrative as they could be, offering anniversary bonus points and elite status.

Let’s look at the details of each of these cards, including the hugely improved bonuses we’re seeing:

Wyndham Rewards Earner Card

The Wyndham Rewards Earner Card is the entry level personal card, and offers the following perks:

  • Annual fee: $0
  • Sign-up bonus: earn up to 60,000 Wyndham Rewards points — 45,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days, an additional 15,000 points after spending $2,000 within the first six months
  • Return on spending: 5x Wyndham points on Wyndham spending and gas stations, 2x Wyndham points on dining and groceries, and 1x points on all other purchases
  • Foreign transaction fees: none
  • Elite status perks: Wyndham Rewards Gold status for as long as you have the card, offering perks like free Wi-Fi, preferred rooms, and late check-out
  • Anniversary bonus: 7,500 bonus Wyndham Rewards points after spending $15,000 in a year
  • Award redemption discount: save 10% when you redeem Wyndham Rewards points to book free night awards

Wyndham Rewards Earner Plus Card

The Wyndham Rewards Earner Plus Card is the premium personal card, and offers the following perks:

  • Annual fee: $75
  • Sign-up bonus: earn up to 90,000 Wyndham Rewards points — 60,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days, an additional 30,000 points after spending $2,000 within the first six months
  • Return on spending: 6x Wyndham points on Wyndham spending and gas stations, 4x Wyndham points on dining and groceries, and 1x points on all other purchases
  • Foreign transaction fees: none
  • Elite status perks: Wyndham Rewards Platinum status for as long as you have the card, offering perks like free Wi-Fi, room upgrades, early check-in, and late check-out
  • Anniversary bonus: 7,500 bonus Wyndham Rewards points with no spending requirement
  • Award redemption discount: save 10% when you redeem Wyndham Rewards points to book free night awards

Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Card

The Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Card is the business card, and arguably it’s the most lucrative card of all, as it offers the following perks:

  • Annual fee: $95
  • Sign-up bonus: earn up to 90,000 Wyndham Rewards points — 60,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days, an additional 30,000 points after spending $2,000 within the first six months
  • Return on spending: 8x Wyndham points on Wyndham spending and gas stations, 5x Wyndham points on eligible marketing, advertising services, and utilities, and 1x points on all other purchases
  • Foreign transaction fees: none
  • Elite status perks: Wyndham Rewards Diamond status for as long as you have the card, offering perks like suite upgrades, a welcome amenity, and more
  • Anniversary bonus: 15,00 bonus Wyndham Rewards points with no spending requirement
  • Award redemption discount: save 10% when you redeem Wyndham Rewards points to book free night awards

Which Wyndham credit card is best?

This really is an impressive suite of credit cards, and I don’t think they could get much better. The two premium cards earn anniversary bonuses with no spending requirement, come with status, and even offer a redemption discount. There’s not much more you could ask for with a hotel credit card.

Personally I think the big winner here is the business credit card. For a $95 annual fee you’re getting 15,000 bonus points every year (Wyndham free nights cost either 7,500 points, 15,000 points, or 30,000 points), top tier Diamond status, a 10% redemption discount, and more.

Getting top tier status just for having a credit card is something that’s otherwise only available on the Hilton Aspire Card.

Bottom line

Wyndham’s portfolio of credit cards is phenomenal. There are two personal cards and one business card, and all offer elite status and discounts on award redemptions. On top of that, the two premium cards offer anniversary points bonuses that more or less cover the annual fee. These cards are now also offering significantly better bonuses than when they launched.

If you stay at Wyndham properties with any frequency these cards are worth having. The bonus categories are potentially useful as well, though I wouldn’t be using any of these cards for my everyday spending.

What do you make of Wyndham’s credit cards?

Can I apply for a new card even though I already have a Wyndham Rewards credit card? I don't see any restrictions like Chase (bonus points earned every 24 or 48 months) or AMEX (once per card per lifetime).

Approved for the Biz Card just a couple of days ago, but with only 45K bonus points after spending $1,000 (standard offer). Any chance I can get them to up it to the offer described here?

Wyndham acquired the Registry Collection last momth. Only top properties can join, although only 1 for now. Bookable with WRs.

Wyndham is moving aggressively to up its game. It isn’t “just” timeshare, Ho-Jo’s, or ltd service properties anymore. It is positioning itself as a premier travel company & a cache of WRs could unlock future great travel experiences

I’m Diamond status with Wyndham and have a Barclays Wyndham card with 0 annual fee that is 3X per dollar. I rarely use it anymore. Now I use my Barclays Aadvantage Aviator Silver for 2X hotel points instead. Can’t wait to blow all my points on 3 weeks worth of hotel stays in Asia post pandemic.

The Wyndham Garden Miami airport is brand new. Go to the rooftop aviator lounge across the street from a runway .

I already have the business card and the earner card. Can I also get the earner plus?

I love Wyndham points actually - I get a lot of value from them.

The business card should be available for people in Chase 5/24 without adding to count.

Normally Barclays does not report biz cards to credit bureau.

To be clear, I was referring to the business card

    @Ben
I just want to confirm- even if I don't really get much benefit out of Wyndham status, the points deposited in the account every year should offset the annual fee, right?
If so, I don't see the harm in getting this card.
Can anyone confirm or reject this?

I was all excited some ski resort in New Hampshire is now a Wyndham vacation property but turned out too good to be true. Either the place is closed due to COVID or sold out. I believe the former .

Ryan - as I posted on another response expect the match from Wyndham to go away soon. The new management team from Eldorado is focused on gamblers (as evidenced by their purchase announced today of William Hill). They also stated in the deal proforma that Caesars was too generous w comps.

I expect the Founders Club and Wyndham match to go away and also changes to the program (like $10 in RC for all non Seven Stars to use VIP lounge plus all members to pay resort fees - like MLife)

It’s worth it for Caesers status if you go to Vegas. As long as you keep Diamond with Wyndham you should have caesers. Very valuable.

Wyndham properties do not care about your status and will not provide any based on that. It is joke of the year to call Wyndham status worthwhile.

Meh, I am just not impressed with Wyndham especially now that most of the decent properties are 30,000 points. I have been Diamond for years through status match with Caesars Entertainment and the few times I have stayed at a Wyndham property have received no benefit from that status.
